Gist of Quran

Venue: Nature get together  Manavata Family Event 2015 (UK)

As part of sharing gist of religions for humanity, following talk about Quran was presented in the family event.

Speaker: Rabia Sultan

Being kind and good to every human being is the fundamental principle of Islam. Islam has taught kindness and service to humanity not at an individual but also at an institutional level. Offering prayers 5 times a day, giving charity and every single act as a Muslim means trying to gain spirituality and cleaning heart from all negative feelings towards anyone.

Verse 36 from chapter 4 of Quran was quoted which states: “And show kindness to parents, and to kindred, and orphans, and the needy, and to the neighbour that is a kinsman and the neighbour that is a stranger, and the companion by your side, and the wayfarer, and those whom your right hand possess (employees).”

Furthermore 2 examples from life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) were quoted explaining how he has always shown kindness and mercy to everyone throughout his life. First example was at personal level  where one old woman made a habit of throwing rubbish on Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) whenever he passed from her house! Even when the old woman threw rubbish on him, he would pass silently without showing any anger or annoyance. One day when the lady did not throw trash, Muhammad (PBUH) got concerned about her found out that she was sick. He then visited the woman and looked her. Thats the example of kindness he has shown to humans.

The second example was of Charter of Madina which was drafted by Muhammad (PBUH) when he migrated to Madina. That charter/constitution is the perfect example of how to treat Non-Muslims at an institutional level when Muslims form government as it protected the rights of every human to live their lives happily and follow their religion peacefully.

Towards the end I concluded the talk by talking about Sufism which is mystic dimension of Islam where people live as Saints and make every effort to gain spirituality and eventually come to conclusion that loving God means loving and serving His creatures.
